Seeded at number 7 and ranked at 68 on the WTA Indian Open 2004, a doubles semifinalist with Marosi last year at Hyderabad during the WTA Indian open 2003, Jelena has already had a taste of the spirit of India. With over ½ million in her kitty in prize money, Kostanic has made her mark on the ITF Circuit where she has won 4 singles titles, along with a fabulous trophy line of 7 doubles titles on the ITF circuit. 4 doubles WTA titles has made Jelena a frontline contender for the WTA Indian Open in 2004.
Coached by Petar Buljevic and trained off-court by Goran Zufar, Kostanic’s parents both working, support her tennis endeavors bolstered by recreational tennis at home. Jelena has a sister Marina who studies economics. In 1997, she climbed to the number 3 position on the Junior Tennis Arena. It takes no little imagination to recognize that Jelena is coming to India this year with the title spot in her agenda.
