Julia is ranked at 116 on the WTA tour and comes to the WTA Indian Open seeded at 19. Winner of two ITF doubles titles the August born Schruff from Augsburg turned professional in September 2001. Achieving her first finalist appearance at Estoril in April of 2003 during her debut WTA tournament after 15 prior attempts, Schruff reached a ranking of 108 October last.
Coached by her father Gerhard Schruff Julia started playing tennis at age 5. Schruff who prefers clay courts may have her preference here in India and with ideal conditions in which to compete, its seems likely she may have a few tricks up her sleeve; and just as long as she isn’t served the same breakfast during the Indian Open – something she is superstitious about, Julia will set the courts on fire.
