ING VYSYA BECOMES TITLE SPONSOR OF WTA INDIAN OPEN 2004

ING Vysya, the banking, life insurance and mutual fund provider, today announced that it is pleased to become the title sponsor of WTA Hyderabad Open 2004, scheduled from February 16-22, 2004 in Hyderabad. The tournament will be titled: ING Vysya Hyderabad Open 2004.

ING Vysya Hyderabad Open 2004 is India’s biggest showcase of one of the world’s fastest growing sports – women’s tennis. The only WTA Tour event in South Asia, it will witness over 32 international class tennis stars like Tamarine Tanasugarn, Iroda Tulyaganova, Nicole Pratt and Alicia Molik, competing for the $140,000 prize money with young Indian talent like Sania Mirza and Isha Lakhani.

Last year’s WTA Indian Open witnessed participation by renowned players like Mary Pierce and Elena Likhovtseva and this year’s event consolidates on that great beginning. The event is being organized by Globosport in association with Sports Authority of Andhra Pradesh.

Speaking on the occasion, Bart Hellemans, CEO & MD, ING Vysya Bank said, “I am very excited about ING Vysya’s association with this prestigious event. This association is an excellent opportunity to further increase awareness on the ING Vysya brand across the country. There are a good number of young promising players in India today and this is our way of encouraging them and re-enforcing our commitment to the sport of tennis.”

According to Mahesh Bhupathi, Managing Director of Globosport “Women’s tennis in India is about to boom, with the path-breaking results of Sania Mirza and others like Isha Lakhani. While the Government of Andhra Pradesh as quick to recognize this trend and support women’s tennis, most companies have been slow to build a first-mover advantage. As such, I would like to thank and congratulate ING Vysya for supporting the ING Vysya Hyderabad Open 2004, becoming the leading corporate supporter of women’s tennis in India”.
